Forward Sakari Tukiainen has signed a one year contract extension, keeping him at HIFK for the 2020 season. Tukiainen, who joined HIFK from Danish Thisted FC in July, played in a total of 13 games this season. He scored five times.

The players will be leaving on their vacations this week, but will be back soon to start up preparations for next years season. We spoke with “Sakke” at the last training session for the 2019 season.

– Feels really good to be able to continue in HIFK. This season felt a bit like a warm-up for me. It took me a while to get into the game, and then I had an unfortunate injury that kept me from playing for a while. But all in all I think it was an OK season from me. But now we need to start focusing on the next season, and work hard, so that we’re ready when it starts. If we work hard during the winter, I believe we can be even better next season, said Tukiainen.

– Sakari fits well into our squad, and found his role in the team very quickly. He’s a hard worker who’s been an important part of the team, so naturally we wanted him to continue playing for us. Sakari is a good example of a player, whose profile fits well into the new IFK we’re creating, said sports director Mika Lönnström about the new contract.
