Veikkausliiga season postponed until June
The Veikkausliiga board has today decided that it will postpone the start of the season until June of 2020, due to the ongoing Coronvirus epidemic. The season will start once the restrictions have been lifted.
Due to yesterday’s recommendations by the Finnish government of cancelling all events with more than 500 people, the Veikkausliiga board have decided to postpone the start of the season. The season will begin in June, when these restrictions are lifted. The current plans are to play the full season, in the form introduced for the 2019 season, in a compressed schedule from June until October, with a possibility of moving some games until November. Discussions regarding the schedule for the matches are currently being held between the Finnish FA and Veikkausliiga, and fixtures will be announced at a later point.
The European football association UEFA are currently holding talks on how to proceed with competitive football tournaments during these exceptional circumstances, and once we know the decisions made by UEFA, a new match schedule can be made.
HIFK cancel all football activity
Due to the decision made by the Veikkausliiga board, HIFK have decided that all football activity will be suspended. All training sessions and matches for the next month are canceled, which means that tomorrow’s match against EIF in Tammisaari is also canceled.
HIFK Soccer rf. made the decision to suspend all activity yesterday, per the Finnish FA:s recommendations. This means all trainings, matches and other events are cancelled until, at least, the end of march. Will be monitoring the situation with outbreak of the coronavirus and updating our guidelines accordingly.
If you have already purchased a season ticket, it will automatically be valid for the “new season”, once we get the schedule. No actions will be required for season ticket holders.
